Code of Ethics
The Global AI Standards Board (GASB) establishes this Code of Ethics to guide certified professionals and organizations in the responsible design, deployment, and governance of AI systems. Compliance with this Code is a condition of certification and affiliation with GASB.
Core Principles
- Human Benefit: Prioritize human well-being, dignity, and empowerment over purely technical or financial outcomes.
- Accountability: Ensure clear responsibility for AI decisions. Maintain audit trails and enable meaningful human oversight.
- Fairness & Non‑Discrimination: Detect and mitigate bias. Design for equitable outcomes across populations.
- Privacy & Security: Respect privacy by design, minimize data, and protect systems against misuse or breaches.
- Transparency & Explainability: Communicate AI capabilities and limits. Provide explanations proportionate to impact and risk.
- Reliability & Safety: Validate performance, monitor drift, and establish rollback controls for failure scenarios.
- Human Oversight: Preserve human agency in critical decisions and allow opt‑out where appropriate.
- Social & Environmental Responsibility: Consider broader societal and environmental impacts throughout the AI lifecycle.
- Professional Integrity: Declare conflicts of interest, avoid misrepresentation, and maintain continuous competence.
Practice Requirements
- Perform risk assessments for AI systems proportionate to their impact.
- Document datasets, models, and evaluation procedures; maintain traceability.
- Implement bias detection and mitigation throughout development and monitoring.
- Protect personal data using data minimization, security controls, and lawful bases.
- Provide clear user communication, consent where needed, and accessible feedback channels.
- Ensure appropriate human-in-the-loop controls for high-risk use cases.
Conduct and Enforcement
Certified members commit to this Code. Alleged violations may lead to review, corrective actions, suspension, or revocation of certification. GASB may publish anonymized case summaries to promote learning and accountability.
